Some news from Drumlanrig / Rik's Bike Shed

Good news and bad news this week. Firstly, the bad news is that the trail building that was scheduled for this weekend has had to be called off. I'm sorry. This due to other commitments.

The good news is that we are planning an inter club coaching session / fun race with the Stepping Stanes at Heathall a week on Saturday (7/2/9). I will circulate more details about this on the 4th February after the Stepping Stanes AGM has been held. Finally, don't forget about our AGM. This will be held on the 12th February and all are welcome to attend the meeting. We are encouraging anyone who has an interest in the club to come along and get involved in what happens next year. The venue will be announced shortly.

Coaching Session - 10:00 - 11:30 Saturday 17th January

There will be a Go-Ride session at 10am this coming Saturday, the 17th January. I am planning to use the session to help riders to evaluate their overall technique. As my main adult helper, Jane, will be otherwise disposed this Saturday, I will really need some help on the day. If anyone is available to help out in this way, I would be really grateful, and it you could let me know in advance, that would be even better.

This blog also contains race and session report information - the most recent update, just below this bulletin, features a summary of Jamie Willoughby's recent success on the race scene. Talking of races, the next Stepping Stanes youth dirt crit race is coming up on the 7th February and I'm hoping to see Drumlanrig well represented on the start line.

Finally, as we are now into a new year, it will necessry to renew your membership of the club. To make the process easier, I have sent out PDF copies of our membership / parental consent form for parents to print and fill out. I would be great if you could have these ready for Saturday.

Jamie Willoughby takes the 2008 SXC series title

Drumlanrig rider Jamie Willoughby's fantastic introductory MTB race season was topped off recently when he was awarded with the SXC series championship trophy for the under ten's age group. Jamie was featured on the back page of the Standard holding his trophy at the Castle. If you missed this article, it is on-line at http://www.dgstandard.co.uk/dumfries-news/local-news-dumfries/local-news-dumfriesshire/2009/01/02/jamie-rounds-up-biking-title-51311-22582235/
Since the Standard article came, out Jamie has seen further success at Scottish Cycling's Supercross Cyclocross event on the 4th January at Stirling. A detailed race report can be found on the British Cycling web-site at http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/site/BC/cyx/EventReports2009/2009_01-05_scottish_power_stirling_cross.asp . The picture to the left shows Jamie taking part in the Supercross race at Stirling and has been taken from the BC web-site.
